Meet the author
Alaa Abd el-Fattah is an Egyptian-British writer, technologist, and political prisoner of conscience, internationally recognized as a leading voice of the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings. From a family of prominent human rights activists, he has spent most of the past decade behind bars for his advocacy for democracy and free speech. His collected writings, smuggled from his prison cell, offer a powerful, firsthand account of the ongoing struggle for freedom in the face of authoritarianism, revealing a profound and resilient human spirit.
