The Script

Two young women are training for a life of immense power and responsibility, their every move scrutinized within the ancient, white-walled institution that raised them. One is a noblewoman, accustomed to courtly intrigue and political maneuvering; the other is a fisherman's daughter, sharp-witted and fiercely practical. They are friends, rivals, and confidantes, bound by the shared secret of their immense potential. Their world is one of prophecy and order, a carefully constructed reality where every threat is known and every future is planned. Then, on a single, fateful night, a prophecy is born—a whispered foretelling of a child who will either save the world or break it completely. The two women hear it, and in that moment, the blueprint for their lives is shattered. Their shared training, their personal ambitions, all of it is suddenly secondary to a new, secret mission that will demand everything from them and pit them against the very forces that shaped them.

The weight of that prophecy—of a single, pivotal moment that redefines a life's purpose—was a theme Robert Jordan explored from countless angles. Before he created the sprawling, fourteen-volume epic The Wheel of Time, Jordan, a West Point graduate and decorated Vietnam veteran, experienced firsthand how a single, world-altering event can change the trajectory of an entire generation. He saw how history hinges on the actions of individuals who are often unaware of the role they are meant to play. After years of building his intricate world, he felt a pull to return to its beginning for his readers and for himself. He wanted to explore the origins of that central quest, to show the human story behind the legend, and to chronicle the moment two young women, Moiraine and Siuan, first set out on a path from which there could be no return. New Spring was his answer to that pull, a story born from the heart of his own creation.

Module 1: The Burdens of Prophecy and Secrecy

The story opens in the shadow of war and prophecy. The Aiel War has just ended. The world is breathing a sigh of relief. But inside the White Tower, the fortress of the Aes Sedai, a new crisis is born.

Gitara Moroso, an Aes Sedai with the rare talent of Foretelling, collapses and dies. But not before delivering a world-shattering prophecy. The Dragon has been reborn. He is a baby boy, destined to face the Dark One in the Last Battle. This single event sets everything in motion. Two young initiates, Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche, are the only witnesses. This knowledge becomes their secret, their burden, and their mission.

This brings us to our first insight. Your most critical mission will likely begin in secret and isolation. The Amyrlin Seat, the leader of the Aes Sedai, immediately understands the danger. If word gets out, the child will be hunted by forces of darkness and by those who fear the prophecy. The last Dragon broke the world. People fear this one will do the same. So, the mission to find and protect him must be clandestine.

So what happens next? The Amyrlin, Tamra, initiates a covert search. She sends trusted agents, called searchers, across the land. But Moiraine and Siuan, bound by their secret knowledge, begin their own parallel hunt. They start compiling lists of babies born at the right time, in the right place. Their work is tedious. It's frustrating. It's thousands of names on endless scrolls. They are two young women trying to save the world with ink and parchment.

This reveals a crucial lesson. True urgency is often masked by mundane, unglamorous work. The fate of the world hinges on Moiraine and Siuan's discipline to sift through records, day after day. It hinges on their resilience in the face of overwhelming odds and bureaucratic drudgery. They are performing a vital, but painfully slow, data analysis task.

But here’s the thing. They are not the only ones hunting. Soon, the searchers chosen by the Amyrlin start dying in mysterious "accidents." Tamra herself dies. Moiraine and Siuan realize the terrible truth. There is a cancer inside the White Tower. A secret society of darkfriends known as the Black Ajah. They know about the prophecy, too. And they are systematically eliminating anyone involved in the search.

This leads to a stark realization for the two friends. In a high-stakes environment, you cannot trust the system. The very institution they serve is compromised. Their allies could be their enemies. They are utterly alone. They decide they can trust no one but each other. They must operate outside the established channels. Their secret mission just became a rogue operation.
