Meet the author
Jonathan Swift was the foremost satirist of the early eighteenth century and Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, a position of immense influence. An Anglo-Irish political pamphleteer, poet, and cleric, Swift used his sharp wit and incisive prose to expose the follies of politics, religion, and human nature. Gulliver's Travels, his most enduring work, was born from this fierce desire to critique society and provoke moral reflection through imaginative and scathing allegory.
